14. Music Box
The man operating the cylinder
was sound asleep.
It is hard to listen to
off-key music.
"Wake up!
Let's crank up the music box!"
"C" in charge
washed his face in a hurry.
"D" in charge
looked for a hammer.
"E" picked up the conductor's baton.
The first notes were out of sync.
"Again!"
The baton tapped the music stand,
tap, tap,
on the music box
with its carved wooden
lid.
My grandfather treasured
the hand-cranked music box.
All the notes from "C" to "B"
live in it.
There is even room
for the sharps and the flats.
15. L'orgue de Barbarie
Le joueur d'orgue de Barbarie
dormait profondément.
Difficile d'écouter la musique
quand le cylindre s'essouffle.
"Réveille-toi!
Tourne la manivelle!"
Do aux commandes
se lava le visage en vitesse.
Ré aux commandes
chercha un marteau.
Mi prit la baguette du chef d'orchestre.
Les premières notes étaient fausses.
"Reprenons!"
La baguette frappa le pupitre.
Tap, tap,
sur la caisse
au couvercle
sculpté.
Mon grand-père chérissait
cette boite à manivelle,
toutes les notes de do à si
y vivent.
Il y a même de la place
pour les dièses et les bémols.
